 Join SF/BA MECDA for an exciting opportunity to learn from one of the great masters of Raks Sharki, Morocco of New York. An ambassador of our dance, her phenomenal career has helped shape our dance form. Her scholarship has formed the foundation of how a generation of performers approach our dance form. She has performed and taught world-wide and it is an honor to host her for a weekend of music and dance here in San Jose.

Workshop Descriptions
Saturday - Choreography Workshop - 4 hours
11:00am - 4:00pm ~ Hoover Theater Studio A & B
Join us as Morocco presents a choreography to a song entitled “Boss Ba’ah” (“Look Now!”) by noted Arabic singer Shereen. This choreography is upbeat modern Egyptian Oriental/Raks Sharki in style and is both fun and complex.
Sunday - Master Class - 2.5 hours
10:00am - 12:30pm - Hoover Theater Main Stage
Join us for a master class with Morocco as she guides the workshop participants through the process of totally being with the music. She will be working with a piece of music by George Lamamm entitled “Ahlam” (“Dreams”) a work that is slow, dreamy and beautiful.
Sunday - Guedra Workshop - 1.5 hours
 3:00pm - 4:30pm - Hoover Theater Main Stage
This workshop is included in the price of admission although dance space is limited to about 50 participants, there is plenty of seating for those who are interested in observing this workshop. Learn the beautiful and complex movements of this traditional “blessing” dance of the Tuareg people of North Africa.

Festival Dancing - 12:30pm - 3:00pm
Hafla at the Hoover will have a block of festival dancing on Sunday from 12:30pm - 3:00pm. Current members of SF/BA MECDA are invited to send us a request for an 7 minute troupe or soloist slot. We will probably have a waiting list for performances, but you never know when a dance slot will open up, so bring music and a costume!
Pro Showcase - 5:00pm - 8:00pm
Morocco is headlining our evening showcase will feature an eclectic mix of styles and genre’s by some of the Bay Area’s top professional performers and dance instructors. Our committee will be making selections soon!
