Workshop with Judeen - A Taste of Turkish Rom
Saturday, January 14, 2006, 11:00am
SF/BA MECDA is pleased to present a workshop with internationally acclaimed belly dance artist Judeen. A long-time supporter of MECDA, Judeen travels extensively as a performer, researcher as well as seeking out beautiful treasures for her boutique. For Passages, Judeen will be presenting performances, workshop and presentations with a Turkish flare. In the morning, her Turkish Techniques workshop will present a portfolio of combinations with an Anatolian flare. In the afternoon, during our festival, Judeen will be featured in a presentation/demonstration about her travels throughout Istanbul and beyond. In the evening, she will be headlining our gala show, Passages, with her imitable style and grace.
Judeen is a multi-award winning belly dancer with over 20 years experience. She has studied extensively in Egypt, researching the folkloric dances - as well as Oriental dance - of that country. Her earlier training was in a more Arabic (Lebanese) style, and Turkish cabaret. Judeen's unique, exciting belly dance style is a blend of the best of all these elements. She is noted for her technique in isolations, layering, and innovative combinations with the veil (double and single), sword, floor work, and drum solo.
In addition to performing, Judeen is an experienced teacher and owns her own Middle Eastern dance studio in Central California. Being a perpetual student of the art of this dance, her innovation and expertise is continuously evolving, which she generously passes on to her students.
